What is a 3D acrylic painting?
A 3D acrylic painting is a sculptural artwork on canvas that has real physical depth and texture. You can actually feel the layers and textures when you run your hand over it.
I make mine by layering recycled cardboard and modroc (bandages with plaster of Paris) to build up a three-dimensional image. Then I paint it with acrylic paint.
They’re tactile, sculptural and unique. So much more than just a standard flat print or canvas.
How are your paintings made?
I start by drawing the design onto pieces of recycled cardboard. I cut these out and layer them up on a blank canvas to build up the 3D shape.
Once I’m happy with how it looks, I cover the cardboard with modroc and leave it to set. Then I paint it with acrylic paint.
Every painting is completely handmade by me, no moulds, or precut pieces.
You can read more detail about the process on my blog.
Can I commission a painting from my own photos?
Yes commissions are one of my favourite things to do.
I can work from your photos to create a one-of-a-kind 3D acrylic painting of your pet, a place, a building, whatever means the most to you.
Head to the Commission page on this website to find out more and place your order.
What subjects do you paint?
I like to paint all kinds of different subjects. Popular ones include pets (dogs, cats, horses and more), wildlife, landmarks, vehicles and buildings.
If you have something specific in mind, just get in touch and I’ll let you know if I can do it.
Where can I see your work in person?
You can visit my pop-up studio in Castleford at Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre (in the old Argos unit), WF10 1AD.
I’m open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am–3pm. I also appear at craft fairs around West Yorkshire — follow me on Facebook facebook.com/PurpleFayeArt to find out where I’ll be next.
Do you sell prints and cards as well as originals?
Yes, as well as original 3D acrylic paintings, I sell cards and prints of some of my designs.
These make lovely gifts and are a more affordable way to own a piece of Purple Faye art.
You can browse what’s available in my online shop.
What are your craft kits?
My 3D picture craft kits let you make your own 3D picture using the same technique I use for my original paintings.
They’re great for adults and children who enjoy crafting. Current designs include Highland Cows, cats, dogs, trains, planes and much more.
Everything you need is included apart from paint and you don’t need to be able to draw as I’ve made you a template to use.
Just follow the instructions and you’ll have your own 3D picture to hang on the wall.
How do I look after my 3D acrylic painting?
You can find full care instructions on the Painting Care page of this website. The short version: keep it out of direct sunlight and damp conditions, and dust gently with a soft dry cloth.
Are you based in Castleford?
I’m a West Yorkshire artist based in the Knottingley/Castleford area.
My pop-up studio is in Castleford town centre at Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre, and I love being part of the local community here.
